Ellen's View            30x48"            thrown and splattered paint on canvas        2022

Ellen's View is a painting taken from a photograph an artist friend sent to me from Hawaii. Her story of the spot was compelling enough for me to want to paint the image she not only sent, but portrayed in her telling. I tried to capture her peaceful story and that little bit of reflection on the water (using a long throw using a stick).

ShinShin               40x60"                         thrown and splattered paint on canvas 2022

Shin Shin means the quietness of the snow falling, the soundless quality of quiet. When I was first painting the cherry blossoms series, I became stuck on the image of the trees. A Japanese artist friend of mine, told me, it's not about the image of the tree, or blossom, it's about the storm of blossoms as they drift slowly through the air and towards the ground. That artist friend is  named, Rin, her name means the sound inside of a bell when it's not being rung. The stillness... ShinShin.

Shin Shin is represented by the LGOCA gallery in Laguna Beach.

Seven Women Artists Exhibit 2021

I love this painting. This one did everything I wanted it to do. It retains the image but allows for the technique of throwing paint. It sets a mood, and integrates the sky with the tree. I am happy.

Seven Women Artist Exhibt

Sept 18th through Oct. 16th 2021

This Jacaranda received an update recently. It was a little too "tight". I walk a fine line of representation, albeit impressionism, and technique. Because the work is "thrown", it defeats the purpose of the technique, if it is too representational. My ego sometimes gets in the way and I want to show how well I can throw paint. However, that's only a part of the painting process. Ego aside, the work should honor the technique.
