Diana Carey
My paintings are painted with a gestural technique; throwing, splattering and dripping paint onto the canvas using brushes and sticks. The paintings subject matter varies from landscape to nests and tangles. The style is abstract impressionist. Many of my works are over 8ft., some up to 12ft. My goal is to lead the viewer into the tangled threads and splatters of paint to find a home amidst the perceived chaos.
I decided to experiment with Pollock's technique, not because I liked his work, on the contrary, I didn't understand it. What initially appeared to be simple turned out to be very difficult. The throws aren't random in the least and though the process and finished work may appear chaotic it is no more so than the connecting particles that make up existence itself.
My art work is exhibited internationally in museums, schools, galleries and in the public and private sector. I was born in Beirut Lebanon to American parents traveling abroad. I am an outsider artist.
In addition to being a fine artist, I am a published poet and have taught art in the public and private sector. I also lecture and hold workshops. I was the 2011 recipient of the Kenneth Picerne Artist Outreach Grant.
